My NCS Experience!!!
NCS... What is that you might say?? My answer... one of the best experiences of my life. It is the National Citizen Service, a programme funded by the British government for 15 to 17 year olds to experience new things, make new friends and build new skills. Let me tell you it was unforgettable...
NCS is split into 3 phases.
Phase 2 of NCS is even better. It is the Discovery phase in which you spend 2 days learning a new
skill of your choice. My choice was photography and we spent 2 days taking photos and talking with people at a community centre. It was really nice to meet these people and hear their stories. After the 2 days we presented our skills in a showcase to the parents and guardians. During phase 2 we stayed at university accommodation to have a taste of uni life. Also we had to cook our own meals which was a talent for a person like me with zero cooking talents.
Phase 3, Social Action. In this week we stayed at home instead of accommodation. During this phase you raise money for a social project to help your community. We got sponsorships from the Monopoly Run we did, in order to throw a party for the volunteers at the community centre, to give recognition of their work. With the money we raised, we bought things for the party and then we did the party for the volunteers the following day.
On the very last day of NCS, we had campaign day in which we aimed to raise awareness of a topic surrounding our social project. Our campaign was based on problems faced by the elderly and disabled. We spent the day handing out leaflets and talking to the public about the issue. Me and my partner managed to hand out our 100 leaflets first in our group.
Overall the whole experience was truly amazing, one I'll never forget. It helped me challenge myself, boost my confidence, make new friends (who are amazing people let me say) and just have fun!
So if you get the chance, say YES to NCS!!!

Our group went to Kirkley Hall in Northumberland. Activities we did were things such as, high ropes, rock climbing, abseiling, hiking and gorge walking. I enjoyed phase 1 so much, I met so many new people and we instantly clicked as friends. The rooms we stayed in were dorms, the rooms were shared by just 2 people so you got to know your room mate quite well. On the right are photos of my friends on the high ropes.
